Catch the Bus

Games with and for autonomous buses

Catch the Bus is a week-long format exploring current implementation and the future of self-driving vehicles in public transport through a game design process.

Within the private road network of the Charité is a prototype autonomous bus service. The busses are stage 3+ autonomous vehicles ie they are still monitored by a human operator.

Thes busses represent an early form of AI embedded into our cities. There are many such trials going on around the world right now and it would seem that they represent a near future reality. However, this topic is rich for exploration as many of the key aspects of this future are as yet little understood or do not yet exist.

Tacit Dimension in cooperation with Free Ice Cream was commissioned by the Fiction Forum to create games with and for the autonomous busses. Fiction Forum is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy with the mission to leverage creative industries’ innovation potential.
